ARNO® Sort
Four technologies, pure metal fractions.
Highlights
- Five technologies in one process chain: centrifuging, magnetic separation, sensor sorting, air classification
- ARNO® Sort C: solid-liquid separation for wet, cutting-fluid-laden chips
- ARNO® Sort MB / MD: magnetic separation with ferrite or neodymium – even for cold-worked stainless steel
- ARNO® Sort S: sensor-based sorting without compressed air, all metals in one pass
- ARNO® Sort A: air classification separates light materials such as film, paper and foam from metal
The modular ARNO® Sort systems can be flexibly combined and integrated into existing or new recycling plants. Typical applications include shredder light fraction, metal slag and bottom ash, cable and electronic scrap, wet machining chips, and construction and industrial waste fractions.
Metal chips, mixed scrap and production waste rarely consist of just one material — cutting fluid, iron, non-ferrous metals and light fractions are present mixed together. The ARNO® Sort technologies separate them in one or several steps into pure fractions, turning a material mixture into multiple recoverable material streams.

Advantages: ARNO® Sort S
No compressed air
Eliminates compressor, air treatment and valve manifold – lower investment and electricity costs.
All-in-one metal detection
Steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals and cable are detected and diverted in a single pass.
Minimal dust generation
Without an air blast, the material stream isn't stirred up – often no additional extraction filter is needed.
Modularly expandable
Inductive, optical or combined – every size can later be expanded with an additional sensor line.
ARNO® Sort S
Modular, sensor-based sorting systems for metal scrap – inductive and optical sensors, magnetic and eddy-current separation, five sizes from 400 to 2000 mm belt width.

Advantages: ARNO® Sort C
Complete self-emptying
Horizontal design drains completely when switched off – no caking, no jamming on restart.
Uninterrupted automatic operation
Can be continuously integrated into fully automated chip processing, e.g. directly after a chip breaker.
Self-cleaning slotted screen
Wedge-wire screen with 0.7 mm gap width continuously self-cleans during operation – stable liquid discharge.
Low total operating costs
Media recovery, continuous operation and low maintenance requirements reduce TCO compared to vertical batch centrifuges.
ARNO® Sort C
Horizontal drum centrifuge for continuous solid-liquid separation: removes cutting fluid and emulsion from metal chips and is the first processing stage before any dry sorting.
Technical Data
| Parameter | ARNO® Sort C |
|---|---|
| Design type | Horizontal drum centrifuge |
| Separation principle | Centrifugal force + wedge-wire slotted screen |
| Screen gap width | 0.7 mm as standard |
| Max. particle length | up to 30 mm |
| Drive power | 18.5 kW / 400 V / 50 Hz |
| Machine weight | approx. 3,600 kg |
| Materials | Steel, brass, cast iron, and aluminum swarf |
| Operating mode | continuous |
Advantages: ARNO® Sort MD
Highest separation precision
Direct material contact and a thin material layer enable precise separation even of fine grain and weakly magnetic parts.
No effort against gravity
Unlike the overband principle, the part does not need to be lifted – more process-efficient for demanding stainless steel separation.
Ferrite or neodymium selectable
Ferrite for the Fe mass stream, neodymium for cold-worked, weakly magnetic stainless steel.
Enclosed design
Defined trajectories and protection of the surroundings through the enclosed housing.
ARNO® Sort MD
Magnetic drum with a fixed 180° magnetic core and rotating stainless steel shell – separates ferromagnetic particles continuously, without moving magnet parts. Ideal for thin material layers and fine grain.
Technical Data
| Parameter | ARNO® Sort MD |
|---|---|
| Design type | Fixed 180° magnetic core, rotating stainless steel shell |
| Magnetic strength ferrite | approx. 2,000 gauss |
| Magnetic strength neodymium | approx. 4,000 gauss (VA-fähig) |
| Application ferrite | Fe scrap, structural steel, high layer depths |
| Application neodymium | Fine Fe particles, cold-worked stainless steel (V2A/V4A), thin layer |
| Material feed | Vibrating chute for an even, thin layer |
| Operating mode | continuous, no moving magnetic parts |
Advantages: ARNO® Sort MB
Protects downstream equipment
Removes Fe contaminants before they reach shredders, breakers or sorting stages – fewer breakdowns and stoppages.
Transverse or longitudinal installation
90° to the conveying direction as the standard case, or in the conveying direction above the discharge drum for long parts and tight spaces.
Ferrite or neodymium
MB 2000 for the Fe mass stream, MB 4000 additionally captures weakly magnetic, shredded stainless steel.
Continuous operation
Permanent magnet without exciter current and cooling – operates continuously without process interruption.
ARNO® Sort MB
Permanent magnet above the conveyor belt – automatically pulls ferrous objects out of the material stream and discharges them via a circulating discharge belt into a separate Fe chute.
Technical Data
| Parameter | ARNO® Sort MB | |
|---|---|---|
| Magnet type | Permanent, 2,000 / 4,000 gauss | |
| Drive | 2.2 kW / 400 V | |
| Weight | approx. 723 kg | |

| Belt width | 0.65 m | |
| Belt speed | 1.1 m/s | 16 A |
| Installation | Transverse (90°) or longitudinal above the discharge drum |
Advantages: ARNO® Sort A
Compact retrofit system
Can be connected to existing conveyor belts or screening machines, often without a new foundation.
Continuously variable frequency control
Suction or blowing power is calibrated exactly to the material – fine copper wires stay put, films fly off.
Reduced dust exposure
Closed or partially closed air circuits minimize emissions in the hall.
AB or AP depending on the task
AB as a gentle suction station, AP with a hard air jet for tangled or heavy shredder and slag fractions.
ARNO® Sort A
Continuously separates material mixtures in an air stream by density, particle shape and air resistance. ARNO® Sort AB as a pure suction station, ARNO® Sort AP with combined suction and blow-off technology for tangled or heavy fractions.
