ATM Engineer to Order
Designed, not selected.
Tailor-made high-performance systems for metal recycling – engineered precisely for your material, throughput, available space and melting or logistics scenario. Material testing, engineering, manufacturing and commissioning from a single source.
Positioning
Designed, not selected
ATM Recyclingsystems develops high-performance engineer-to-order systems precisely for your material, throughput, available space and melting or logistics scenario. Hands-on technology development in our own test and competence centre, interdisciplinary engineering, agile product development and in-house manufacturing interlock seamlessly.
The result is not an isolated standard machine but a turnkey, automated complete recycling system – from shredding and classification through separation and sorting to briquetting, baling and intelligent material handling. Mechanics, hydraulics, electrical engineering, safety technology, PLC software and digitalisation come from a single source.
First step
Material testing instead of assumptions
Every ETO project starts with the real material. In our in-house test and competence centre, ATM examines your secondary raw materials on a production scale – the test data replace estimates and feed directly into the process concept, sizing and design. If an order follows, the material analysis is not charged.
Throughput & plant capacity
Realistically achievable throughput per fraction and the resulting required plant capacity.
Pre- & post-treatment
Whether screening, drying, shredding or dewatering is needed is assessed in advance.
Size reduction & flow
Size-reduction behaviour, particle size distribution and flow properties of the material.
Dust, heat & wear
Dust and heat generation and abrasiveness – and the protective measures that follow.
Density & purity
Achievable briquette and bale densities, bulk density and fraction purity.
Fluid recovery
Recoverable coolants, oils and emulsions from chips and grinding sludge.

Process
The ATM ETO process – from requirement to running system
A milestone-based stage-gate model accompanies the entire process: defined approvals, verified process parameters, documented results and clear go/no-go decisions – from the first concept to validation in continuous operation.
Capture requirements
Material type, quantities, target quality, space, logistics and melting scenario are defined together.
Test the material
The original material is tested under realistic conditions in the test and competence centre.
Process & system concept
ATM selects the suitable technologies, defines the process chain and creates the plant layout.
Engineering & design
3D model, hydraulics, electrical engineering, controls, safety and level of automation are matched.
Manufacturing & integration
Key components, switchgear and software are produced in-house; the line is pre-assembled and tested.
Commissioning & ramp-up
On site, fine-tuning with the real material continues until stable, performance-optimised operation.

Modular system
Nine technologies developed in-house
All processes are developed in-house – so your material decides the technology, not the product catalogue.

Briquetting
ARNO® Brik: two- and three-column designs with up to 12,500 kN pressing force for chips, grinding sludge, dusts and mill scale.

Baling
ARNO® Press: three-dimensional baling presses and end-of-life vehicle solutions with up to 10,000 kN main cylinder force.

Cutting
ARNO® Cut: scrap shears with 4,000 to 13,000 kN shear force and energy-optimised PZT oil flow control.

Breaking – cast iron
ARNO® Break C: knife-less cast iron breaker for controlled, low-wear processing.

Breaking – rails
ARNO® Break R: knife-less rail breaker – breaking instead of cutting, without cutting sparks.

Sorting
ARNO® Sort: centrifugal, magnetic, sensor and air classification for high yield and fraction purity.
System worlds
Turnkey system worlds
How individual technologies become one continuous, automated recycling line.
Chip recycling – from wet chips to melt-ready briquettes
Screening
ARNO® Screen separates fines in advance and relieves the shredder.
Shredding
ARNO® Shred brings long or bushy chips to a defined size.
Fluid management
Centrifuges and tank systems return coolants to the circuit.
Briquetting
ARNO® Brik compacts into high-density, reproducible briquettes.
Handling
ARNO® Handle takes care of dosing, weighing and removal.
Sorting & baling – from mixed scrap to marketable fractions
Size reduction
ARNO® Cut, ARNO® Break or ARNO® Shred produce the defined size.
Screening & separation
Screening, magnetic and air separation remove fines, iron and light materials.
Sensor sorting
ARNO® Sort separates ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel and contaminants.
Baling
ARNO® Press compacts the pure fractions into dense, stackable bales.
Storage & furnace
Ready for storage, transport or direct furnace charging.

Comparison
ETO system vs. catalogue machine
It is not the price of the individual machine that counts, but the cost per processed tonne in the real material flow – over the entire service life.
| Criterion | Standard catalogue machine | ATM engineer-to-order |
|---|---|---|
| Design basis | Supplier data sheet and empirical values | Measured test data with your material |
| Throughput | Nominal value under ideal conditions – often lower in practice | Throughput per fraction proven in testing |
| Output quality | Fluctuating density, yield not guaranteed | Reproducible density, lower melt loss in the furnace |
| Operating costs | Standard hydraulics, compressed-air sorting | PZT oil flow control, compressed-air-free sorting |
| Wear | Commercial wear plates | Hardox® 450–600 as SSAB Wear Parts Partner |
| System responsibility | Several subcontractors, mechanically joined | Mechanics, hydraulics and PLC from a single source |
Digital from day one
ARNO® Smart: the entire line digitally in view
With ARNO® Smart, not just a single machine but the entire recycling line is monitored. Real-time data, adaptive line control, remote diagnostics, documented production KPIs and condition-based maintenance create transparency and support continuous optimisation of throughput, energy use and availability.
Life cycle
A plant that grows with your requirements
The ETO process does not end with commissioning. ATM systems are designed mechanically and in software for expandability: new material flows, additional sorting or screening stages, chip cleaning, automated bale handling or ARNO® Smart can be integrated during the life cycle. ATM RetroFIT, original spare and wear parts and tailored service packages protect the investment in the long term.
